SCANDINAVIAN COUNTRY

Available materials in the Swedish environment are used instead of costly and rare ones. The country is heavily forested with softwoods, so the rooms normally feature simple woods which is a main feature in the kitchen cabinet.

Pine and other tightly grained woods are appropriate in this design. An uncluttered look is an important hallmark of Swedish Country styling with a focus on the functional storage provided. Open shelving, mixed with dressers, sideboards and other furniture pieces converted to kitchen use are also a great feature. Simple frame and recess panel door styles with delicate, simple moldings based on classical motifs are suitable.

The hardware used on this design style is simple. Symmetry and usefulness are the key to hardware selections. Porcelain and wood are also great to use.

Although wood would be the most realistic, wood printed laminate, rustic stone or tile is effective and fitting for this style. Granite or marble would not be for this this style, but quartz material would be an excellent choice.

Wood floors that are scrubbed, lime-washed or finished with a gray tone are great.

Stenciling and faux painting may be used on the soft tone-on-tone pastel finishes on the walls.
